Formula Student aerodynamics: Ground effect vs Rear wing downforce
Rear wings generate downforce at the cost of high aerodynamic drag. Venturi underbody tunnels generate downforce by accelerating airflow under the chassis with virtually zero drag penalty. For tight autocross circuits with 40-70 km/h average speeds, ground effect undertrays win championships.
